Pattern

The work is never turned so your project will have a right side and a wrong side. All stitches of the top of the pincushion are made in back loop only, the side and the bottom are made into both loops of a stitch.

Top of Pincushion
Ch3, sl st to close ring

Round 1: Ch1 (does not count as a stitch), sc 6 times into ring. Sl st to 1st sc to close round (6 sc)

Round 2: Ch1, sc twice in each st, sl st to first sc to close round (12 sc)

Round 3: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, dc2rb (and thereby skipping one sc)*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (12 sc, 6 dc2rb)

Round 4: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc in next st, sc in dc2rb*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (24 sc)

Fasten off. Change colour.

Round 5: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc in next st, dc2rb in dc (and thereby skipping one sc), sc once in next st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (24 sc, 6 dc2rb)

Round 6: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc in next three st, sc in dc2rb, sc in next st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (36 sc)

Fasten off. Change colour.

Round 7: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc in next four st, dc2rb in dc (and thereby skipping one sc), sc once in next st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (36 sc, 6 dc2rb)

Round 8: Ch1, *sc twice in first st, sc in next five st, sc in dc2rb, sc in next st*, repeat between ** five more times, sl st to first sc to close round (48 sc)

Fasten off. Change colour.

Repeat round 5-8 one more time until you have 72 sc ending with a round consisting of single crochet stitches. For each new round, add 1 extra stitch to the number of of sc stitches between increases and dc2rb. This makes the spiral motion of the dc2rb. You can adjust the size of your pincushion by adding or extracting the two round repeat.

Side of Pincushion

Round 1: Ch1 (does not count as a stitch), sc once in each st, sl st to first sc.
Repeat round 1 three more times

Bottom of Pincushion

Round 1: Ch1, sc2tog over the first two stitches, sc once in the next 10 sc, *sc2tog over the next two st, sc once in the next 10 sc*, repeat between ** four more times, sl st to first sc.

Round 2: Ch1, sc2tog over the first two st, sc once in the next 9 sc, *sc2tog over the next two st, sc once in the next 9 sc*, repeat between ** four more times, sl st to first sc.

Keep on decreasing, reducing the amount of single crochets you stitch in only once.
Stop when you have about 18 single crochets left.

Take your knee high hosiery, stuff a bit of polyester stuffing into it, and put it into your pincushion, leg hole sticking out. Keep stuffing your hosiery until your pincushion is firm, tie a knot in the hosiery, cut the excess off and put the end into the pincushion.
Continue to decrease your stitches until you have 6 single crochets left. Fasten off, leaving a long end. Sew your hole shut by stitching into those 6 stitches. Do not cut off!
Take a button, place it on top and sew your button tightly (and thus pulling the top inward) with your yarn end into place. Knot and cut off.

Enjoy your pincushion!

  1. I love it and I need to make a pincushion. I am always sticking pins into my crochet bag, just because it is always close to me on my desk. Thanks! love Carol
